Asia Markets Mixed, Nikkei Takes Profits

Equity markets in the Asia-Pacific region were content to take some of their profits from a bonanza week, as indexes in Japan and Hong Kong pointed downward Thursday.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 shed recent gains, tailing off 130.18 points, or 0.2%, to 66,131.98.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng ditched 87.23 points, or 0.3%, to 25,565.74.

In other markets;

In Shanghai, the CSI index gained 39.48 points, or 0.9%, to 4,630.28.

In Korea, the Kospi Index hiked 104.16 points, or 1.5%, to 6,912.37.

In Singapore, the Straits Times index dropped 37.47 points, or 0.7%, to 5,684.12.

In Taiwan, the Taiex index jumped 142.6 points, or 0.3%, to 45,975.22

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 slid 133.16 points, or 1%, to 13,880.05

In Australia, the ASX 200 lost 89.61 points, or 1%. to 9,038.19.
