Asian Markets Close Mostly Lower

Profit-taking appeared to be the order of the day in Asia, where many of the region’s markets lost ground Thursday.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 dipped 617.18 points, or 0.9%, Thursday to 65,683.26.

Samsung and SK Hynix, which are Kospi heavyweights, fell 6.30% and over 10%, respectively. Over in Japan, Tokyo Electron declined 5.5% and Advantest lost 2.34% .

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng shook off 385.54 points, or 1.5%, to 25,530.28.

In other markets;

In Shanghai, the CSI index subtracted 6.84 points, or 0.2%, to 4,651.31.

In Singapore, the Straits Times 50 index recovered 57.62 points, or 1%, to 5,638.99

In Korea, the Kospi index lost 301.88 or 4.6%, to 6,296.38

In Taiwan, the Taiex index reversed 214.9 points, or 0.5%, to 44,396.70.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 backtracked 39.12 points, or 0.3%, to 13,958.06.

In Australia, the ASX grew 43.78 points, or 0.5%, to 9,271.61.
