Investors who bought the dip in the energy sector before tensions erupted again will watch oil prices.
Exxon Mobil (XOM) broke out of a downtrend to close at $154.45. It might take a run back to the $165 - $170 level next.
Super Micro Computer (SMCI) gained nearly 20% yesterday. It needs to follow through on the rally to confirm the uptrend. Investors might consider Dell Technologies (DELL) or Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) instead. Those two firms have less accounting and leadership concerns than SMCI.
In the media sector, watch Paramount (PSKY) and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). While California is delaying the WBD acquisition, the EU gave Paramount antitrust approval for the $110 billion deal.
Watch IBM (IBM) today. The firm posted Q2 earnings of $2.93 (non-GAAP). Revenue increased by just 1.2% Y/Y to $17.2 billion. In after-hours trading, IBM shares are 0.5% lower, reversing its rally.
In the chip sector, watch Nvidia (NVDA). The stock gained 2.3% to close at a $5.13 trillion market capitalization. It retook the title of biggest company, beating Apple (AAPL).
Lastly, watch gold. The SPDR Gold ETF (GLD) bottomed in the low $360 range, closing at $379.12. The shiny metal offers investors diversification away from the U.S. dollar (DXY) and bitcoin (BTC-USD).
