Canada’s automotive sales continue to strengthen, rising 12.6% in June from a year earlier, according to the latest data released by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
The consulting firm, which tracks the Canadian auto industry, said sales of light vehicles totaled 161,901 units in June, up 1.38% from May and up nearly 13% from the same month in 2022.
June marked the eighth consecutive month of year-over-year gains in Canada’s auto sales.
DesRosiers said in a written statement that the seasonally adjusted annual rate of sales for June was 1.64 million vehicles, up 7% from 1.54 million in May and the highest level since February of this year.
The firm added that automotive sales in this year’s first half reached 813,000 units, up 8% from 756,000 in the first half of 2022, but less than 1.04 million recorded in 2018 before the Covid-19 pandemic.
U.S. automaker General Motors (GM) led the sales in Canada during this year’s first half with 127,561 units sold, up 16% from a year ago.
