Apple Expected To Unveil New Touchscreen Computer

Consumer electronics giant Apple (AAPL) is widely expected to unveil a new touchscreen laptop computer at an event it has scheduled for Oct. 28.

The iPhone maker has sent invitations to media and Wall Street analysts for a product unveiling it is calling an “Apple Experience in Los Angeles.”

Expectations are for Apple to unveil a new slate of laptop computers and tablets that run on the company’s powerful microchips.

Some analysts expect the centrepiece of the launch event to be new MacBook computers, notably a notebook laptop that features touchscreen technology.

Apple’s new CEO John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook in September of this year, is expected to preside over the latest launch event.

It will be Apple’s third launch in Ternus’ brief tenure as CEO, following the latest iPhone launch in September that included the company’s first foldable device.

In its most recent quarter, Apple’s MacBook computer and iPad tablet sales accounted for about 10% of the company’s total revenue. The company remains reliant on sales of its iPhones.

In the past, Apple has dismissed touchscreen laptops, with software chief Craig Federighi saying in 2018 that the ergonomics would fatigue users.

AAPL stock has risen 30% in the last 12 months to trade $342.94 U.S., near an all-time high.

Apple recently became only the second publicly traded company to achieve a $5 trillion U.S. market capitalization after chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA).
