Technology giant Microsoft (MSFT) is creating a new internal group that will develop artificial intelligence (A.I.) apps.
The new group is being led by Jay Parikh, the former head of engineering at Meta Platforms (META) and will be called “Core AI – Platform and Tools.”
In a memo to staff, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the focus is “to build the end-to-end Copilot & AI stack for both our first-party and third-party customers to build and run AI apps…”
The move to create A.I. applications that consumers can use comes as artificial intelligence remains the dominant theme in technology.
However, some analysts say that A.I. has lacked a killer application to draw in consumers and boost revenue at Microsoft and other technology companies.
After an initial explosion in popularity, interest in A.I. chatbots such as ChatGPT has begun to wane among consumers.
As the leading investor in ChatGPT creator OpenAI, Microsoft remains at the center of the A.I. industry and continues to add the technology to its products and platforms — from its Bing search engine to its Azure cloud computing unit.
The stock of Microsoft has increased 7% over the last 12 months to currently trade at $417.19 U.S. per share.
