Consumer electronics giant Apple (AAPL) is partnering with Google parent company Alphabet (GOOGL) and chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA) on a new artificial intelligence (A.I.) model.
At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held in Cupertino, California, Apple unveiled its most advanced A.I. model yet, called “Apple Foundation Model Cloud Pro.”
The new A.I. model is being powered by Alphabet’s A.I. technology and will run on Nvidia’s advanced microchips and processors.
Apple is taking a different approach to A.I. than other mega-cap technology companies and rivals such as Microsoft (MSFT) and Amazon (AMZN).
Specifically, Apple is building it’s A.I. products through partnerships rather than spending billions of dollars on its own data centres and other infrastructure.
Apple also spent much of this year’s developer conference focused on the privacy advantages and convenience of its A.I. technologies that are being added to devices such as the iPhone.
The highlight from this year’s event was the highly anticipated redesigned Siri digital assistant, which can hold verbal conversations with users.
In a demonstration, Siri was able to check concert dates, set a reminder to buy tickets, and get directions to pick up a friend on the way to the concert.
Regarding its new Foundation A.I. model, Apple executives said it is similar to Alphabet’s Gemini frontier models and will run on Nvidia GPU processors.
Management at Apple stressed that they are focused on safeguarding consumers’ privacy as they develop more advanced A.I. models and products.
At the event, Apple also unveiled a new customizable version of Liquid Glass and an operating system that will be integrated into the company’s new iPhones, MacBooks, and other devices.
AAPL stock has risen 50% in the last 12 months to trade at $301.54 U.S. per share.
