Ford Motor Co. (F) is recalling more than 430,000 vehicles, including in Canada, over defective seatbelts.
The Detroit automaker has recalled about 14,000 vehicles in Canada due to a seatbelt defect that could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
The recall impacts Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles in Canada from the model years 2018 through 2022.
The issue involves front seat belt retractors that may unexpectantly lock, preventing the seat belt from extending or retracting properly.
In some cases, the belts could retract too quickly, potentially increasing the risk of injury.
The automaker says that owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the problem fixed.
Ford says the seatbelts will be replaced at no cost to vehicle owners.
In the neighbouring U.S., Ford has recalled nearly 420,000 Expedition and Navigator vehicles over the same issue.
Ford Canada says customers can determine if their vehicle is included in this recall by entering their 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) at www.ford.ca/support/recalls
F stock has declined 2% over the last five years to trade at $15.71 U.S. per share.
