The Race to Secure Data in a Quantum World: Tech Developers Lead the Charge

USA News Group – As the world moves closer to a reality involving quantum computing, new serious security concerns are arising. In the banking system, HSBC recently spoke about its preparation for what it calls “Q-Day”, the moment quantum computers can break existing cryptographic algorithms. It’s a moment of great dread, when all data held online will be suddenly vulnerable. Research indicates that 27% of experts believe there is a 50% chance of a cryptographically relevant quantum computer (CRQC) being developed by 2033. Anne Neuberger, the White House’s top cyber advisor, recently stated the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is set to release four post-quantum cryptographic algorithms as early as this month. Working behind the scenes are tech developers that are diligently developing solutions to handle the quantum computing threat of the future, including Scope AI Corp. (CSE: SCPE) (OTCQB: SCPCF), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG, GOOGL), Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company (NYSE: HPE), CyberArk Software Ltd. (NASDAQ: CYBR).

Following a successful rebranding and market shift, Scope AI Corp. (CSE: SCPE) (OTCQB: SCPCF) has gained substantial traction with its sophisticated GEM (General Enterprise Machine Learning) platform. Now Scope has enhanced its portfolio through a significant strategic acquisition of quantum resilient entropy (QSE Technology), further strengthening its offerings in AI and now also in cybersecurity.

"We are pleased to announce the acquisition of the QSE Technology,” said James Young, CEO of Scope AI Corp. “The product suite is established, complete, and ready to onboard customers now.”

Quantum resilient entropy is a cutting-edge security measure developed to safeguard data from future quantum computing threats, ensuring sensitive information stays protected in our digital age. According to Young and Scope AI, QSE Technology is now publicly accessible, offering robust protection against the emerging dangers of quantum computing. This technology benefits individuals, small and medium-sized businesses, and large enterprises, providing comprehensive data security solutions.

“This acquisition enables us to provide our customers with extremely robust security solutions that are easy to integrate into existing infrastructures,” added Young. “With the QSE Technology, we can address the emerging threats posed by quantum computing and ensure our clients are prepared for the future of digital security."

Scope AI Corp.'s QSE Technology suite stands out from other quantum resilient entropy offerings by providing an API-based service (SaaS) along with options for encrypted storage in the cloud, on-site, and through decentralized systems.

The core of this platform features a proprietary, high-performance data pipeline that is scalable both vertically and horizontally. This design ensures the protection of highly sensitive data for private, business, and government applications, safeguarding it during transit and while at rest. The QSE Technology suite offers unique defense mechanisms against both present and emerging cybersecurity threats, including those posed by quantum computing decryption techniques.

Integrated with Scope's GEM platform, the combined offerings provide a comprehensive solution for navigating the future of quantum computing. The GEM platform's advanced object visual recognition technology delivers deeper insights and more precise solutions, now further secured against the cybersecurity challenges posed by next-generation quantum computers.

Much like Scope’s efforts, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is already defending its iMessage messaging platform against tomorrow’s sophisticated quantum computing attacks. While these types of attacks are not yet a widespread threat, Apple is preparing for a future where malicious actors might use massively powerful computers to break current encryption standards and iMessage's security layers. Such scenarios could emerge by the end of the decade, but experts agree that the tech industry must begin defending against them well in advance.

Now Apple has added the new PQ3 protocol into iMessage, as the first widely deployed messaging app to achieve Level 3 security. Unlike traditional encryption methods that could be susceptible to future quantum attacks, PQ3 offers strong protection against even the most advanced threats. By employing cutting-edge cryptographic techniques, PQ3 guarantees that iMessage conversations stay secure and private, no matter how the threat landscape evolves.

“To our knowledge, PQ3 has the strongest security properties of any at-scale messaging protocol in the world,” said Apple’s Security Engineering and Architecture (SEAR) team in a blog post. “iMessage now meets this goal with a new cryptographic protocol that we call PQ3, offering the strongest protection against quantum attacks and becoming the only widely available messaging service to reach Level 3 security.”

A new quantum computer built by Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG, GOOGL) subsidiary Google recently turned heads by instantly executing a task that typically would’ve taken 47 years with normal computing. Numerous experts in the field have lauded Google's remarkable progress. Steve Brierley, CEO of the Cambridge-based quantum company Riverlane, described Google's achievement as a "major milestone."

“Quantum computers hold the promise of executing tasks beyond the capability of classical computers,” said The Google team, in a paper published on the arXiv pre-print server. “We estimate the computational cost against improved classical methods and demonstrate that our experiment is beyond the capabilities of existing classical supercomputers.”

Google's newest version of its quantum machine, the Sycamore quantum processor, now boasts 70 qubits, a significant increase from the 53 qubits in its earlier version. This enhancement makes the new processor roughly 241 million times more powerful than its predecessor.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company (NYSE: HPE) is also aware of the potential threat of quantum computer hacks in the future. Back in March, HP launched the world’s first business PCs to protect firmware against quantum computer hacks, powered by HP’s upgraded Endpoint Security Controller (ESC) chip to future-proof sensitive data.

According to HP, migrating their entire digital world to a new cryptographic standard is a huge undertaking, highlighting how software can be updated, and hardware can’t. Therefore this includes some of the cryptography that protects PC firmware. With no cryptographic protections in place, no device would be safe – attackers could access and modify the underlying firmware and gain total control.

While HP is introducing this new protection for PC firmware integrity, the company recommends customers start to assess how and when to start migrating all other aspects of their information systems to quantum-resistant cryptography.

"At HP, our mission is to empower companies to capitalize on the power of AI, sparking ambitious and meaningful progress in every organization," said Alex Cho, President of Personal Systems, HP Inc. "By harnessing AI as a personal tool, we are creating more personalized and meaningful work experiences, revolutionizing the way we interact with technology and each other in the workplace."

Back in May, Israel-based security company CyberArk Software Ltd. (NASDAQ: CYBR) made a splash by acquiring machine identity specialists Venafi for $1.54 billion ($1 billion in cash and $540 million in shares), combining Venafi’s capabilities with CyberArk’s leading identity security capabilities to establish a unified platform for end-to-end machine identity security at enterprise scale. As a pioneering force in PKI and certificate management with a strong foothold in contemporary cloud environments, Venafi enhances CyberArk’s offerings.

"By combining forces with Venafi, we are expanding our abilities to secure machine identities in a cloud-first, GenAI, post-quantum world," said Matt Cohen, CEO of CyberArk. "Our integrated technologies, capabilities and expertise will address the needs of global enterprises and empower Chief Information Security Officers to defend against increasingly sophisticated attacks that leverage human and machine identities as part of the attack chain."
