Entertainment giant Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has unveiled its new flagship streaming service called “Max.”
The new service is a blend of content from HBO Max and the Discovery network and includes
scripted dramas such as HBO’s “Succession,” and “House of the Dragon,” along with Discovery’s unscripted reality programs that focus on cooking and home improvement.
Warner Bros. Discovery executives have been planning to combine HBO Max and Discovery+ as part of their rationale for merging Discovery Communications and WarnerMedia after it was divested from AT&T (T) in April 2022.
The Max streaming service will add several new series, including a D.C. Comics series called “The Penguin,” and a show derived from sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.” The company also announced a new “Game of Thrones” prequel.
Warner Bros. Discovery had more than 96 million global streaming subscribers, from either HBO Max, HBO or Discovery+, at the end of last year. About 55 million of those streaming customers are based in the U.S. and Canada.
In Canada, HBO and HBO Max content is available exclusively through Bell Media’s (BCE) Crave streaming service.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s stock has declined 46% in the last year to trade at $14.06 U.S. per share.
