Postmedia (PNC.A) is cutting 75 jobs as it outsources the printing of The Windsor Star newspaper.
Unifor and CWA Canada unions said printing of The Windsor Star is being transferred to a Toronto printer, and that the newspapers will then be shipped back to Windsor for distribution.
Inserts that go into The Windsor Star will be handled at a facility in London, Ontario going forward.
The impacted printing plant workers are covered by Unifor, while CWA Canada represents workers who are responsible for newspaper inserts. The unions are protesting the changes being made by Postmedia.
Postmedia, which owns newspapers across Canada such as The National Post and Vancouver Sun, announced recently that it is cutting 11% of its editorial staff nationwide as its publications struggle with declining circulation and advertising revenue.
Postmedia also announced that it is moving dozens of its Alberta community newspapers to digital-only formats and looking at more outsourcing options for printing and distribution.
Toronto-based Postmedia’s stock is currently trading at $1.70 per share.
