TSX Composite up; shares higher at market open

Investing.com - Canadian equities started with gains on Wednesday, with rises in majority of sectors, the most notable ones being the Materials, Consumer Staples, Industrials and Utilities sectors.

At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index rose 0.67%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap also increased. The TSX Venture climbed 0.91%, while the Smallcap increased by 0.95%.

Top Gainers:

  • Denison Mines (NYSE:DNN): Rose 5.73% or 0.16 points to 2.95
  • Cameco (TSX:CCO): Climbed 5.94% or 3.97 points to 70.80
  • New Gold (TSX:NGD): Increased 6.84% or 0.210 points to 3.280

Top Losers:

  • NFI Group (TSX:NFI): Fell 2.08% or 0.34 points to 16.04
  • Novagold (TSX:NG): Dropped 1.46% or 0.07 points to 5.04
  • Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV): Declined 1.20% or 0.120 points to 9.920

In Commodities Trading:

  • Crude Oil for August delivery fell 0.13 points to 81.28 a barrel.
  • September Brent Oil Contract is down by 0.19% or 0.16 drop to 84.50 a barrel.
  • Gold Futures for August delivery rose 22.70 points to 2,390.60 a troy ounce.

Currency Markets:

  • USD/CAD cruises at 1.36 with a daily range of 1.3619-1.3643.
  • EUR/CAD is stable at 1.47.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 104.755

Main Economic Events:

Canada's main economic calendar is calm, but Fed Chair Powell's testimony and US Crude Oil Inventories are the events will be getting attention of Canadians also.
