TSX Composite opens higher; shares high at market open

Investing.com - Canadian equities started with gains on Thursday, with rises in all sectors, the most notable ones being the Renewable Energy and Clean Technology, Communication Services, Utilities and REIT.

At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index rose 0.28%. The TSX Venture fell and the TSX Smallcap increased. The TSX Venture dropped 0.12%, while the Smallcap increased by 0.17%.

  • Sprott Inc . (TSX:SII): Climbed 3.13% or 1.82 points to 59.99
  • Innergex (TSX:INE) Renewable Energy: Increased 2.30% or 0.24 points to 10.68
  • Novagold (TSX:NG): Rose 2.10% or 0.10 points to 4.87

Top Losers:

  • goeasy (TSX:GSY): Dropped 9.52% or 19.52 points to 185.48
  • B2Gold (NYSE:BTG): Fell 2.13% or 0.08 points to 3.68
  • Air Canada (TSX:AC): Declined 1.07% or 0.19 points to 17.61

In Commodities Trading:

  • Crude Oil for August delivery fell 0.55 points to 83.33 a barrel.
  • September Brent Oil Contract dropped 0.23% or 0.20 drop to 87.14 a barrel.
  • Gold Futures for August delivery declined 2.95 points to 2,366.45 a troy ounce.

Currency Markets:

  • USD/CAD cruises at 1.36 with a daily range of 1.3612-1.3643.
  • EUR/CAD is stable at 1.47.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 104.897
