TSX Composite drops on Monday; shares down at market start

Investing.com - Canadian equities started with losses on Monday. The top losers were Capped Consumer Staples, Capped Industrials and Capped Financial indices.

At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index dropped 1.58%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap were also down. The TSX Venture fell 1.82%, while the Smallcap was down by 1.42%.

Top Gainers:

  • Fortuna Mining (TSX:FVI): Climbed 3.53% or 0.26 points to 7.62.
  • Energy Fuels Inc (TSX:EFR): Increased 4.04% or 0.310 points to 7.980.
  • SilverCrest Metals (TSX:SIL): Rose 3.09% or 0.47 points to 15.70.

Top Losers:

  • BRP Inc (TSX:DOO): Dropped 11.50% or 7.99 points to 61.51.
  • Magna Intl (TSX:MG): Fell 9.01% or 5.19 points to 52.43.
  • Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb): Declined 8.17% or 6.950 points to 78.100.

In Commodities Trading:

  • April Brent Oil Contract climbed by 0.59% or 0.45 points to 76.12 a barrel.
  • Crude Oil for March delivery fell 0.68 points to 73.21 a barrel.
  • Gold Futures for April delivery climbed 28.99 points to 2,863,99 a troy ounce.

Currency Markets:

  • USD/CAD started the week over 1.46.
  • EUR/CAD is trading at 1.5038.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.89% at 109.180.
