At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index climbed 0.98%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap were also up. The TSX Venture rose 2.36%, while the Smallcap was up by 1.70%.

- NexGen Energy (TSX:NXE): Rose 9.18% or 0.870 points to 10.350.
- Tilray (TSX:TLRY): Increased 7.63% or 0.14 points to 2.05.
Top Losers:
- CAE Inc (NYSE:CAE).: Dropped 1.29% or 0.47 points to 36.03.
- TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA): Declined 0.89% or 0.18 points to 20.15.
- Trisura (TSX:TSU): Fell 0.85% or 0.33 points to 38.65.
In Commodities Trading:
- March Brent Oil Contract climbed by 1.81% or 1.35 points to 75.99 a barrel.
- Crude Oil for February delivery rose 1.49 points to 73.21 a barrel.
- Gold Futures for February delivery increased 20.54 points to 2,661.54 a troy ounce.
Currency Markets:
- USD/CAD began 2025 higher at 1.4431.
- EUR/CAD is trading at 1.4872.
