Investing.com - Canadian equities started mixed on Wednesday. The top gainers were Capped Information Technology, Capped Industrials and Capped Financial indices. Capped Consumer Staples, Capped Energy and Capped Consumer Discretionary indices were the top losers.
At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index rose 0.16%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap were also up. The TSX Venture rose 0.42%, while the Smallcap was up by 0.13%.

- NexGen Energy (TSX:NXE): Increased 4.55% or 0.520 points to 11.960.
- NFI Group (TSX:NFI): Climbed 4.00% or 0.57 points to 14.83.
- BlackBerry (TSX:BB): Rose 3.77% or 0.14 points to 3.71.
Top Losers:
- Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE): Declined 4.52% or 0.180 points to 3.800.
- Dollarama (TSX:DOL): Dropped 3.47% or 5.14 points to 143.03.
- Canadian Western Bank (TSX:CWB): Fell 3.16% or 1.95 points to 59.74.
In Commodities Trading:
- February Brent Oil Contract climbed by 0.18% or 0.13 points to 73.75 a barrel.
- Crude Oil for January delivery rose 0.08 points to 70.02 a barrel.
- Gold Futures for February delivery increased 5.89 points to 2,673.79 a troy ounce.
Currency Markets:
- USD/CAD stays still over the 1.40 line.
- EUR/CAD dropped slightly to 1.4750 before picking up again, forcing above 1.4780 at the time of writing.
- The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 106.359.
Main Economic Events:
Canada has Labor Productivity for the quarter today as the main economic calendar event.
