TSX Composite starts higher today; retail sales data release

Investing.com - Canadian equities started in the green on Friday. The top gainers were Capped Consumer Staples, Capped Industrials and Capped Real Estate indices.

At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index climbed 0.16%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap also increased. The TSX Venture dropped 0.31%, while the Smallcap was slightly down by 0.02%.

Top Gainers:

  • Aya Gold & Silver: Climbed 2.86% or 0.365 points to 13.125 .
  • ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS): Rose 2.45% or 1.00 points to 41.80.
  • Tilray (TSX:TLRY): Increased 1.63% or 0.03 points to 1.87.

Top Losers:

  • Capstone Mining (TSX:CS): Declined 2.24% or 0.23 points to 10.06.
  • Celestica Inc (TSX:CLS).: Dropped 2.03% or 2.60 points to 125.25.
  • Ero Copper (TSX:ERO): Fell 1.71% or 0.38 points to 21.82.

In Commodities Trading:

  • January Brent Oil Contract climbed by 0.36% or 0.27 points to 74.50 a barrel.
  • Crude Oil for January delivery rose 0.49 points to 70.59 a barrel.
  • Gold Futures for December delivery increased 21.90 points to 2,696.80 a troy ounce.

Currency Markets:

  • USD/CAD is stable at 1.3981.
  • EUR/CAD is down to 1.4555.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 107.545.
