TSX Composite starts higher today; shares mixed at market open

Investing.com - Canadian equities started mixed on Monday (NASDAQ:MNDY). The top gainers were Capped Consumer Staples, Capped Financial and Capped Industrials indices.

At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index climbed 0.54%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap on the other hand, dropped. The TSX Venture fell 1.19%, while the Smallcap was down by 0.70%.

Top Gainers:

  • Mattr Corp (TSX:MATR): Rose 5.39% or 0.83 points to 16.22.
  • Shopify Inc (NYSE:SHOP): Increased 4.30% or 5.21 points to 126.46.
  • Algonquin Power (TSX:AQN): Climbed 2.70% or 0.18 points to 6.85.

Top Losers:

  • IAMGold (TSX:IMG): Fell 7.73% or 0.61 points to 7.28.
  • MAG Silver (TSX:MAG): Dropped 5.24% or 1.17 points to 21.17.
  • Kinross Gold (TSX:K): Declined 5.09% or 0.74 points to 13.81.

In Commodities Trading:

  • January Brent Oil Contract dropped by 2.21% or 1.63 points to 72.24 a barrel.
  • Crude Oil for December delivery fell 1.76 points to 68.62 a barrel.
  • Gold Futures for December delivery declined 64.90 points to 2,629.90 a troy ounce.

Currency Markets:

  • USD/CAD is trading at 1.3946.
  • EUR/CAD dropped to 1.4832.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.63% at 105.555.
