At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index climbed 0.41%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap also increased. The TSX Venture rose 0.42%, while the Smallcap was up by 0.13%.

- MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA): Climbed 10.38% or 2.21 points to 23.51.
- Fairfax Financial (TSX:FFH): Increased 9.12% or 157.79 points to 1,888.04.
Top Losers:
- Centerra Gold (TSX:CG): Dropped 7.52% or 0.74 points to 9.10.
- Energy Fuels Inc (TSX:EFR): Fell 7.49% or 0.630 points to 7.780.
- Eldorado Gold (TSX:ELD): Declined 5.82% or 1.41 points to 22.81.
In Commodities Trading:
- January Brent Oil Contract climbed by 2.56% or 1.87 points to 74.97 a barrel.
- Crude Oil for December delivery rose 1.97 points to 71.46 a barrel.
- Gold Futures for December delivery increased 5.80 points to 2,755.00 a troy ounce.
Currency Markets:
- USD/CAD is trading just over 1.39.
