South Korea Hits Fresh Highs

Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed Monday amid tariff uncertainty as U.S. President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that he would increase global tariffs to 15% from 10%.
The move came on the heels of a U.S. Supreme Court decision striking down a broad swath of the president’s trade agenda enacted under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977, or IEEPA.

Japanese markets were closed Monday.

In Korea, the Kospi index traveled 37.56 points, or 0.7%, higher to 5,846.09

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index rocketed 668.56 points, or 2.5%, to 27,081.91.

In other markets

Chinese markets were also closed for holiday.

In Singapore, the Straits Times Index gained 23.73 points, or 0.5%, to 5,041.33.

In Taiwan, the Taiex progressed 167.55 points, or 0.5%, to 33,773.26.

In Australia, the ASX dished off 55.37 points, or 0.6%, to 9,026.04.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 charged ahead 111.9 points, or 0.8%, to 13,420.43.
