Asia-Pacific Markets Slip

Shares in Asia-Pacific fell on Tuesday despite gains overnight on Wall Street as the S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite closed at record highs.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 tumbled 235.41 points, or 0.8%, to 28,812.61.

The Japanese yen traded at 110.61 per U.S. dollar, stronger than levels above 110.8 seen yesterday against the greenback.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng fell 274.2 points, or 0.9%, to 28,994.10.

The Australian dollar changed hands at $0.754, down from levels around $0.758 seen earlier this week.

In other markets

In Shanghai, the CSI 300 subtracted 61.22 points, or 1.2%, to 5,190.54.

In Singapore, the Straits Times Index dumped 37.39 points, or 1.2% to 3,089.49

The Kospi index in Korea lopped off 15.21 points, or 0.5%, to 3,286.68.

In Taiwan, the Taiex index eked up 7.22 points to 17,598.16

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 added 36.07 points, or 0.3%, to 12,639.82

In Australia, the ASX 200 removed 6.05 points, or 0.1%, to 7,301.24
