Asia Ends Week Mixed

Shares in Asia-Pacific were mixed in Friday afternoon trade, following gains overnight on Wall Street that saw the S&P 500 sailing to a record closing high.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 lost 9.83 points to 28,948.73.

The Japanese yen traded at 109.39 per U.S. dollar, stronger than levels above 109.6 seen against the greenback yesterday.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng gained 103.25 points, or 0.4%, to 28,842.13.

The Australian dollar changed hands at $0.7752, as compared with levels around $0.776 seen earlier in the trading week.

In other markets

In Shanghai, the CSI 300 let go of 46.77 points, or 0.9%, to 5,224.70.

In Singapore, the Straits Times Index fell 4.53 points, or 0.1%, to 3,157.77

The Kospi index in Korea added 24.68 points, or 0.8%, to 3,249.32

In Taiwan, the Taiex index took on 54.3 points, or 0.3%, to 17,213.52

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 gathered 32.38 points, or 0.3%, to 12,550.39.

In Australia, the ASX 200 eked ahead 9.83 points, or 0.1%, to 7,312.33.
