Elon Musk’s SpaceX Owns Bitcoin

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has filed its initial public offering (IPO) prospectus, and it shows that the commercial space company owns a fair amount of Bitcoin (BTC).

As of March 31 this year, SpaceX had 18,712 Bitcoin on its balance sheet. Those holdings are currently worth $1.45 billion U.S. based on Bitcoin’s current price of just over $77,000 U.S.

The BTC holding places SpaceX among a handful of U.S. corporations that have significant Bitcoin holdings.

SpaceX owns more Bitcoin than Musk's other company, electric vehicle maker Tesla (TSLA). Musk has long been a champion of cryptocurrencies, including Dogecoin (DOGE).

At the end of the first quarter, Tesla owned 11,509 Bitcoin. Michael Saylor's Strategy (MSTR) remains the largest corporate owner of Bitcoin with 843,738 tokens on its balance sheet.

The Bitcoin holdings, which weren’t previously known, were disclosed as Space X prepares for a June IPO that is expected to value the company at $1.25 trillion U.S.

The SpaceX IPO is expected to be the largest in history.

The company plans to go public on the Nasdaq (NDAQ) stock exchange in mid-June under the ticker symbol “SPCX.”
