U.S. President Joe Biden Will Make First Visit To Canada In March

U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to make his first official visit to Canada in March of this year.

News of the official visit came as Biden met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexico's President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in Mexico City for formal trilateral talks.

A visit to Canada by President Biden has been delayed on several previous occasions.

President Biden and Prime Minister Trudeau are expected to discuss issues ranging from a cross-border dispute over the trusted-traveller program Nexus to continental defence and security during the March visit.

Government officials in Ottawa say they expect the visit to produce an agreement that will allow Canada's Nexus enrolment centres to officially reopen following border closures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said earlier this week that the U.S. president would press Canada to take a more direct role in backstopping security forces in Haiti during the March visit.

Canada and the U.S. also continue to have several trade disputes between them in areas ranging from electric vehicles to agricultural products.

Exact dates for President Biden’s March visit to Canada have not yet been made public
