Consumer electronics company Apple (AAPL) has previewed its new suite of artificial intelligence (A.I.) features for its upcoming iPhone.
The new features include an enhanced Siri digital assistant and the ability to automatically generate both emails and images on the smartphone.
The new software called “Apple Intelligence” is being incorporated into the iOS 18.1 operating system that is now available to registered Apple developers.
This fall, the new A.I. features are expected to be made available to the public through the release of the latest iPhone model.
Analysts are expecting that the addition of A.I. will lead to a big upgrade cycle for the iPhone, especially since the A.I. system will only work on the iPhone 15 and newer versions.
The preview of Apple’s A.I. features included:
- A new Siri that better understands voice commands.
- Improved photo searches and the ability to create short movies.
- AI-generated summaries of emails, messages, and voicemail transcriptions.
- Enhanced writing tools and automatic text generation.
Additional A.I. features Apple plans to add to the iPhone over the next year include:
- Image generation
- Emoji generation
- Automated photo and image clean-up
- Integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology
The stock of Apple is up 18% year-to-date and trading at $218.24 U.S. per share.
