Berkshire Hathaway Buys Taylor Morrison Home For $6.8 Billion

Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A/BRK.B) is buying homebuilder Taylor Morrison Home Corp. (TMHC) for $6.8 billion U.S. in cash.

The acquisition expands Berkshire Hathaway’s involvement in the U.S. housing market, where it already has a sizable presence.

Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire said it will pay $72.50 U.S. per share in cash for Taylor Morrison.

The offer represents a 24% premium to the homebuilder’s closing share price on May 29 and values the company at $8.5 billion U.S., including debt.

The acquisition is the first major deal under Berkshire Hathaway’s new CEO Greg Abel, who took over from Warren Buffett at the start of this year.

The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2026 and is modest considering that Berkshire Hathaway is sitting on a cash pile of nearly $400 billion U.S.

Analysts say the deal suggests Berkshire Hathaway is betting on a recovery in the U.S. housing market despite elevated mortgage rates and affordability issues.

Besides Taylor Morrison, Berkshire also owns manufactured-home company Clayton Homes, a slew of building product companies, and several homebuilder stocks such as NVR (NVR).

The company also owns Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, one of the largest residential real estate brokerage networks in the U.S.

Berkshire’s last major deal was in October 2025, when it reached a $9.7 billion U.S. cash deal to purchase OxyChem, the chemical business of Occidental Petroleum (OXY).

Prior to today (June 1), TMHC stock had risen 5% in the past 12 months to trade at $58.50 U.S. per share.

Berkshire Hathaway’s more affordable Class B stock has declined 6% in the past 12 months to trade at $474.48 U.S. per share.
