Canadian grocery retailer Loblaw Cos. (TSE: L) is partnering with Google parent company Alphabet (GOOGL) on a new artificial intelligence (A.I.) shopping initiative.
Going forward, Loblaw says consumers will be able to shop for food, beauty products and apparel directly through A.I. Mode on Google search and the technology giant's Gemini app.
The Toronto-based grocer says it sees agentic shopping, where A.I. helps people buy products, as a natural evolution in today’s marketplace.
As part of its deal with Alphabet, Loblaw is also expanding its use of Google Cloud's Vertex A.I. platform, which it has deployed across its supply chain and in its retail outlets.
The Alphabet partnership is the latest example of how Loblaw is adopting and using A.I.
Last week, the Canadian retailer announced that it was integrating its PC Express grocery delivery app into OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT.
ChatGPT will help consumers to brainstorm meal ideas, curate ingredient lists and buy suggested items, said Loblaw.
L stock has gained 53% over the last 12 months to trade at $68.67 in Toronto.
