Asia Gains Broadly

Mainland China and Hong Kong stocks rose Thursday, amid broad gains in Asian markets.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 regained 307 points, or 0.5%, to 66.422.60.

Mitsubishi UFJ gained 2.24%, Mizuho Financial added 2.78% and Nomura gained 1.34%.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng jumped 318.15 points, or 1.3%, to 25,210.81. The gains in Hang Seng were led by basic materials up 2.9% and industrials sectors, advancing 2.3%,

In Korea, Samsung jumped 3.65%, and SK Hynix took flight 4%. Both are Kospi heavyweights.

In other markets;

In Shanghai, the CSI index regained 10.76 points, or 0.2%, to 4,728.

In Singapore, the Straits Times 50 index lost 13.66 points, or 0.2%, to 5,581.76

In Korea, the Kospi index grew 299.19 or 4.4%, to 7,096.99

In Taiwan, the Taiex index added 25.03 points, or 0.1%, to 44,850.81.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 progressed 32.13 points, or 0.2%, to 13,795.31.

In Australia, the ASX gained 16.02 points, or 0.2%, to 8,838.99.
