Winner Pays $9 Million For Private Lunch With Warren Buffett

Someone has paid $9 million U.S. to have a private lunch with famed investor Warren Buffett.

The lunch is part of a charity event and also includes NBA basketball star Stephen Curry.

An auction was held on eBay (EBAY) and revives a past event that Buffett hosted for more than two decades that raised $53 million U.S. for the GLIDE Foundation homeless charity.

Buffett has agreed to match the winning bid, which means a total of $18 million U.S. has been raised for the charity this year.

The anonymous winner will have lunch with Buffett and Curry in the 95-year-old investor's hometown of Omaha, Nebraska this June.

The Buffett auction began in 2000 and continued every year until the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted it.

Starting in 2008, every winning bid for lunch with the investing giant topped $1 million U.S. Buffett discontinued the event after someone paid $19 million U.S. for lunch with him in 2022.

Buffett stepped down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A / BRK.B) in January of this year after leading the holding company for six decades. He remains chairman of the board.

Berkshire Hathaway’s more affordable Class B stock is currently trading at $484.06 U.S. per share, down 5% over the past year.
