Audio streaming giant Spotify (SPOT) has launched a new artificial intelligence-powered (A.I.) playlist generator for its premium users in the U.S. and Canada.
The new service enables users to tailor music playlists based on their listening habits and commands.
The launch is the latest in a series of A.I.-powered updates from Sweden’s Spotify as it looks to attract more users to its audio streaming platform.
The company is also trying to move people to its subscription plans from its free, advertising-supported tier.
Spotify said the new A.I.-generated playlists will allow users to effectively direct the algorithm using their own words rather than being passive recipients of songs provided by the platform.
The new “prompted playlists” will also allow users to set “rules” for the A.I. generated content and schedules that can be refreshed daily or weekly.
The new A.I. playlists are being launched after Spotify announced earlier in January that it plans to increase prices of its monthly premium subscription plans in the U.S. and Canada by $1.
SPOT stock is flat over the past 12 months (down 0.57%) and trading at $498.64 U.S. per share.
