Monday is a milestone day for GreenPower Motor Company (TSX-V:GPV)(OTCQX:GPVRF), with news of the company's first sale of its EV Star All-Electric Mini-eBus. From its offices in Vancouver, British Columbia and Portersville, California, the microcap company sells a line of all-electric transit buses ranging from double deckers to shuttles to school buses.
This morning, GreenPower said that it made the first sale of its Mini-eBus to the Port of Oakland to be used as an employee shuttle for on-property transportation. The company currently has 10 of its new EV Star buses in production with completion targeted for next month. The company's buses incorporate parts from leading suppliers, including Siemens of TM4 for drive motors, Knorr brakes, Parker dashes and control systems, Alcoa wheels and ZF axles.
The Port of Oakland will capitalize on California's incentive program known as HVIP (Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program). According to GreenPower, the port will receive a $110,000 voucher for its purchase of the EV Star shuttle. No list price for the EV Star was provided.
While it may be the first official sale of the EV Star, GreenPower's president Brendan Riley stated that the company has commitments for all 10 in production and the next batch will soon be hitting the production line.
The emissions-free bus is 25 feet in length and can seat up to 19 people. On a full charge, the bus has a range between 125 and 200 miles (up to 320 kilometres). With a lifetime of at least 15 years, the bus can be customized to accommodate wheelchairs and mobility aids as well.
Toronto-Venture-listed shares of GPV are up a penny in morning trading on Monday at 50 cents. U.S.-listed shares have edged ahead 3/10ths of a cent to 39 cents.
