TSX Composite starts in the green today; shares rose at market open

Investing.com - Canadian equities started with gains on Wednesday. The top gainers were Capped Materials, Capped Consumer Staples and Capped Consumer Discretionary indices.

At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index climbed 0.43%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap were also up. The TSX Venture rose 0.74%, while the Smallcap was up by 0.98%.

  • Orla Mining (TSX:OLA): Rose 5.56% or 0.350 points to 6.640.
  • Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX:AYA): Increased 4.59% or 0.610 points to 13.900.
  • New Gold (TSX:NGD): Climbed 3.69% or 0.140 points to 3.930.

Top Losers:

  • Celestica Inc (TSX:CLS).: Declined 3.37% or 4.11 points to 117.87.
  • Cargojet (TSX:CJT): Dropped 1.45% or 1.77 points to 120.70.
  • TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA): Fell 1.24% or 0.19 points to 15.10.

In Commodities Trading:

  • February Brent Oil Contract climbed by 0.57% or 0.41 points to 72.73 a barrel.
  • Crude Oil for January delivery rose 0.38 points to 69.15 a barrel.
  • Gold Futures for February delivery increased 29.74 points to 2,676.04 a troy ounce.
