FBI Raids Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Estate

Former U.S. President Donald Trump says the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has raided
his Mar-a-Lago resort and home in Palm Beach, Florida.

In a written statement, Trump said his residence was “under siege, raided, and occupied by a
large group of FBI agents.”

The raid was “unannounced,” Trump said, adding, “They even broke into my safe!”

The search comes after Congressional hearings into the January 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill and
amid questions about whether U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland will pursue criminal
charges against the former president.

Multiple media outlets reported that the search was related to a Justice Department probe into
whether laws were broken when 15 boxes of White House records that include classified
documents ended up at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort instead of the National Archives.

The Justice Department is reportedly also investigating the events that led to the January 6 riot,
when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and delayed confirmation of President
Joe Biden’s electoral win.

Trump was not at Mar-a-Lago at the time of the raid.

Interest in Trump’s handling of official government documents while president has resurfaced in
recent days with news organization Axios reporting that Trump flushed various papers down the
White House toilet when he was president.
