Asia-Pacific markets were mostly higher on Monday, even as two out of three major U.S. indexes recorded a second straight week of losses, fueled by concern over the U.S. debt ceiling and disappointing economic data.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 kept on its upward path Monday, gaining 238.04 points, or 0.8%, to end the week’s first session at 29,626.34.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng dropped 116.55 points, or 0.6%, to 19,627.24, ahead of its first-quarter GDP figures.

In China, the CSI 300 index regained 61.13 points, or 1.6%, to 3,998.89.
In Singapore, the Straits Times index gained back 6.17 points, or 0.2%, to 3,214.72.
In Korea, the Kospi inched up 3.93 points, or 0.2%, to 2,479.35.
In Taiwan, the Taiex index lost 27.31 points, or 0.2%, to 15,475.05.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 slipped 1.24 points to 11,937.60.
In Australia, the ASX 200 eked ahead 10.48 points, or 0.1%, to 7,267.13.
