Job Vacancies In Canada Declined 3.3% In Third Quarter

The number of job vacancies in Canada declined by 3.3% in this year’s third quarter after hitting a record high in the previous second quarter.

Statistics Canada said employers across the country were seeking to fill 959,600 vacant jobs in the third quarter, down 3.3% from 992,200 in the second quarter.

The job vacancy rate reflects the number of vacant positions as a proportion of total labour demand.

Despite the Q3 decline, job vacancies in Canada remain above the level they were at before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The rate was at 5.4% in the third quarter, down from 5.7% in this year’s second quarter, but up from 3.3% in the first quarter of 2020 prior to the pandemic being declared.

Statistics Canada said there was an average of 1.1 unemployed people for each job vacancy in the country during the third quarter of 2022.
