Calgary Housing Market Posts Record Sales In April

Calgary’s red hot housing market recorded a new sales record in April.

The Calgary Real Estate Board said sales activity rose 6% in April from a year earlier with a
record 3,401 properties changing hands.

The average price of a home in the Calgary, Alberta market hit $526,700, a 2% rise from March
and a 17% increase from April 2021, according to the real estate board.

New listings fell by 2.1% year-over-year. The overall supply of homes in Calgary has remained
below two months since last November.

Calgary’s housing market has been in the spotlight with some real estate experts pointing to
homebuyers originally from Ontario who are searching for affordable investment properties as
being partly behind the elevated demand in the western Canadian city.

While home prices are rising in Calgary, they’re still well below prices in Canada’s hottest
housing markets such as Vancouver and Toronto, which have hovered above the $1 million
mark for several years now.
