Bell Canada (BCE) has reached a tentative labour agreement with its clerical workers and
telecom services providers, averting a potential job action at the telecommunications company.
Bell Canada said it has come to agreement with Unifor, the union that represents the workers,
concerning pay and the right to work from home.
Unifor, which represents the workers at Bell Canada's Bell Aliant unit in the four Maritime
provinces, declared an impasse in talks in late July and negotiations eventually broke down,
raising the prospect of a strike this fall.
Workers at Bell’s Atlantic Canada operations had been seeking a pay increase and the right to
continue working from home, Unifor said. Negotiations with Bell management began this past
February.
Unifor said that terms of the new collective agreement will only be released publicly if the deal is
ratified by its membership at an upcoming vote.
Bell Canada’s stock is down 3% year-to-date at $63.71 per share.
