Futures Unchanged Thursday

Cenovus, Crescent Point in Focus

Stock futures pointed to a flat opening in Canada's largest market on Thursday, a day after the index jumped to a 19-month high, as investors awaited October housing starts data.

The S&P/TSX Composite climbed 111.95 points to close Wednesday at 15,237.75. December futures on the S&P TSX index were down 0.1%

The Canadian dollar moved up 0.16 cents to 75.72 U.S. early Thursday.
Cenovus Energy Inc said it planned to increase its 2017 capital budget by about 24%.

Yoga and leisure apparel retailer Lululemon Athletica Inc on Wednesday reported quarterly profit that beat analysts' forecasts, helped by higher-than-expected gross margins and sales.

Crescent Point Energy said on Wednesday it will increase its 2017 capital budget 31% from this year to $1.45 billion and boost production by 10%

Dundee raised the target price on Bank of Montreal to $95.00 from $90.00

Canaccord Genuity raised the price target on Dollarama to $111.00 from $108.00

On the economic beat, Statistics Canada reported that its new housing price index rose 0.4%, in October, while municipalities issued $7.6 billion worth of building permits in October, up 8.7% from September.

Meanwhile, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reported housing starts housing starts in Canada were 199,135 units in November compared to 199,641 in October.

ON WALLSTREET

U.S. stock index futures traded slightly higher on Thursday as traders digested the European Central Bank's decision to keep interest rates unchanged.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 16 points, or 0.1%, to 19,533. Futures for the S&P 500 were unchanged at 2,236.75. NASDAQ futures were also unchanged at 4,841.75

In the U.S., initial jobless claims were due at 8:30 a.m. ET.

The ECB also extended its quantitative easing program until December 2017, but will reduce purchases to 60 billion euros per month. ECB President Mario Draghi is expected to hold a news conference later on Thursday.

European markets were higher by noon on the continent Thursday while markets in Japan skyrocketed 1.5%, and markets in Shanghai were down 0.2%.

Oil prices hiked 49 cents to $50.26 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices dipped a dollar at $1,176.50 U.S. an ounce.
