Trump Trade Remarks Rile Kospi

Asian markets traded weaker on Friday as comments from U.S. President Donald Trump on an existing free trade pact with Seoul to payment for a sophisticated anti-missile system caught investors by surprise.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index wilted 83.35 points, or 0.3%, to 24,615.13

South Korea's Kospi index, initially in the green, dipped on news that Trump was threatening to terminate a trade agreement with the country. Trump also warned that conflict with North Korea was possible, even though he said he preferred a peaceful resolution.

South Korean officials told media outlets that Washington had not yet "requested anything" from them regarding the agreement.
