Goods purchased at the wholesale level in this country ran their win streak to five straight upward months in the month before last.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had expected a gain of 0.6%.

Wholesale sales in volume terms were up 0.8%

The agency said five of the seven sub-sectors posted gains.

The miscellaneous sub-sector recorded the largest increase in dollar terms as it increased 3.9% to $7.2 billion, boosted by sales in the agricultural supplies industry.

The nation's number-crunchers also said wholesalers in the machinery, equipment and supplies sub-sector grew by 1.3% at $11.4 billion, the highest level since last January.
