Canada Unemployment Rate Holds Still

Our country's economy lost 2,100 jobs in March and the unemployment rate stayed steady at 7.1%.

Figures released Friday by Statistics Canada showed manufacturing and natural resources sectors both lost employment, while the retail, food and accommodation sectors added jobs.

Across the country, there were fewer jobs in Alberta and Manitoba, while the numbers increased in British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick, and remained largely unchanged elsewhere.

The small drop in employment was a slight disappointment to economists, who had been expecting the economy to add about 1,000 jobs
