In Japan, the Nikkei 225 forged ahead 29.15 points, or 0.1%, to 28,583.52.
Investors will be closely watching the Bank of Japan monetary policy meeting later this week, the first to be led by new BOJ chief Kazuo Ueda.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index tumbled 115.79 points, or 0.6%, to 19,959.34.
in its last hour of trade, while the Hang Seng Tech also reversed and was about 0.4% lower in the final trading hour.

In Shanghai, the CSI 300 subtracted 49.93 points, or 2%, to 4,032.57.
In Korea, the Kospi gave back 20.9 points, or 0.8%, to 2,523.50.
In Taiwan, the Taiex Index recovered 23.88 points, or 0.2%, to 15,626,87.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 hiked 98.9 points, or 0.8%, to 12,026.40.
In Australia, the ASX 200 ease back 8.39 points, or 0.1%, to 7,321.99.
