Amazon Launches A.I. Tool For Shoppers

E-commerce giant Amazon (AMZN) is launching a new artificial intelligence (A.I.) tool that can answer shoppers’ questions about a specific product.

The new feature, which has been designed for Amazon’s mobile app, prompts users to ask questions about a specific item.

The A.I. model then provides an answer within a few seconds, typically by summarizing product reviews and the online listing.

The feature is aimed at preventing shoppers from scrolling through pages of online reviews or reading through a listing to find information about a product they’re considering buying.

Unlike A.I. chatbots, Amazon’s new feature can’t carry on conversations with people, but it does offer written responses to prompts.

Amazon said the new tool is designed not to veer off subject and will return an error message if it can’t answer a question.

The company has introduced several new A.I. tools in recent months, including A.I.-generated summaries of product reviews, and an A.I. feature that helps third-party sellers write listings.

Amazon is also using A.I. to forecast inventory and to determine the most efficient routes for its delivery drivers.

The stock of Amazon has gained 60% over the last 12 months to trade at $153.16 U.S. per share.
