Tesla Recalls More Than Two Million Vehicles

Tesla (TSLA) is recalling more than two million of its electric vehicles to fix a problem with its Autopilot system.

The problem involves a defective system that’s supposed to ensure drivers are alert and paying attention when using the Autopilot feature in Tesla’s vehicles.

The company has said that it will send out a software update to fix the Autopilot problem.

The recall comes after a two-year investigation by U.S. regulators into a series of crashes that happened while the Tesla Autopilot system was engaged.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration concluded that the Autopilot’s method of ensuring that drivers are paying attention is inadequate.

The recall covers nearly all of the vehicles Tesla has sold in the United States since it first launched the Autopilot feature in 2015.

Tesla’s Autopilot system can steer, accelerate, and brake automatically, but it is a driver-assist system and cannot drive itself despite its name.

In recent years, Tesla has acknowledged ongoing problems with the Autopilot system, saying that it “may not be sufficient to prevent driver misuse.”

Tesla’s stock has increased 120% in 2023 and currently trades at $237.01 U.S. per share.
