An annual survey has ranked Air Canada (AC) last among North American airlines in terms of its on-time performance.
The Montreal-based carrier landed 63% of its flights on time in 2023, placing it dead last among the 10 largest airlines in North America.
More than 140,000 planes operated by Air Canada arrived more than 15 minutes late last year, according to the survey conducted by aviation analytics firm Cirium.
Canada's other major airline, privately held WestJet, placed seventh out of 10 for its on-time performance.
Delta Air Lines (DAL) ranked first in the 2023 survey with 85% of its scheduled flights arriving on-time, followed by Alaska Airlines at 82%.
Air Canada blamed its poor performance on challenges that affected carriers across the country last year, notably wildfires and flooding in the summer months when its on-time performance fell below 50%.
Air Canada returned to profitability in 2023 following 11 straight quarters of losses totalling $10 billion due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The stock of Air Canada has declined 3% over the last 12 months to trade at $18.48 per share.
