Tesla (TSLA) chief executive officer (CEO) Elon Musk is again the richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $192 billion U.S., according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Musk, who also owns privately held companies SpaceX and Twitter, saw his wealth increase 40% this year after shares of Tesla rose 24% in May.
Musk currently owns 13% of Tesla’s outstanding shares, according to data from FactSet.
Musk was knocked out of first place on the Billionaire Index last year by LVMH (MC) CEO Bernard Arnault as Tesla’s share price fell following a $44 billion U.S. acquisition of Twitter.
Arnault has now dropped to second place on the wealth index with an estimated net worth of $187 billion U.S., followed by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon (AMZN), in third place with a net worth of about $145 billion U.S.
Tesla’s stock hit a two-year low last November of $167.87 U.S. However, the stock has since rebounded and now trades at $203.93 U.S. a share.
