U.S. technology giant IBM (IBM) says its new Innovation Centre in Calgary, Alberta will lead to
the creation of 250 jobs.
The Innovation Centre will deliver consulting services and technologies that include fifth
generation (5G) wireless, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI).
The focus of the Innovation Centre is to help corporate clients use technology to achieve their
carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction goals.
The City of Calgary is contributing $5 million to the IBM Innovation Centre’s development.
Calgary’s technology sector has grown in recent years as the western Canadian city works to
attract companies and investment dollars, and lessen its reliance on the oil and gas industry.
IBM stock is up 3% this year at $140.71 U.S. per share.
