U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new round of tariffs on a range of products, including household goods such as kitchen cabinets and furniture.
“We will be imposing a 50% Tariff on all Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Vanities, and associated products, starting October 1st, 2025. Additionally, we will be charging a 30% Tariff on Upholstered Furniture,” wrote Trump on social media.
The president also declared a 25% tariff on heavy trucks imported into the United States, a trade levy designed to level the playing field for America’s truck-making industry.
And Trump again threatened to impose a 100% tariff on all pharmaceutical drugs imported into the U.S. unless companies invest in manufacturing medicines in America.
However, analysts say the latest tariffs are likely to hit the furniture industry and consumers hardest.
Import duties imposed by President Trump have already boosted furniture prices in the U.S. considerably over the past year.
Data shows that furniture sold in the U.S. in August of this year cost 4.7% more than in August 2024. Living room and dining room furniture costs were 10% higher than a year ago.
Tariffs on China and Vietnam have severely impacted furniture prices as the two countries combined exported $12 billion U.S. worth of furniture and fixtures to America in 2024, according to U.S. Commerce Department statistics.
Shares of retail furniture and household goods companies such as Wayfair (W), RH (RH), and Williams-Sonoma (WSM) are all trading lower on news of President Trump’s additional tariffs.
