Amazon To Develop Wind Farm In Alberta

E-commerce company Amazon (AMZN) is developing a wind farm in rural Alberta.

The Seattle-based technology giant is planning to build a 495-megawatt capacity wind farm in Vulcan County that’s situated in southern Alberta.

The aim of the wind farm is to help power Amazon’s operations in Alberta, including its fulfilment centres and Amazon Web Services data centre.

This isn’t the company’s first foray into renewable energy in Canada. Amazon already operates the largest solar farm in Canada, which is also located in southern Alberta.

Amazon has committed to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030, and says it is on track to reach that goal ahead of schedule. The company currently has 479 wind and solar projects worldwide.

The stock of Amazon has increased 67% this year and currently trades at $143.20 U.S. per share.
