Netflix Trials Video Game Offering In Canada

Streaming giant Netflix (NFLX) is running a trial of its video game offering in Canada, enabling subscribers in this country to test out its online games on their TVs and computers.

In a blog post, Netflix said a test of its video games involving Canadian users is now underway using televisions and will expand to include computers in the next few weeks.

Netflix said a similar trial is also taking place in the United Kingdom and is meant to test Netflix's video game streaming technology and improve the user experience.

The test involves two video games: adventure game “Oxenfree” and arcade game “Molehew's Mining Adventure.”

Users accessing the games on their televisions play with their phones as a controller, while players on computers use their keyboard and mouse.

The test comes two years after Netflix first announced a push into mobile gaming, seeing it as a way to diversity its business.

Netflix’s stock has risen 73% over the last 12 months to trade at $423.70 U.S. per share.
